NEWBERRY COUNTY — Editor Andrew Wigger took home two third place awards from the South Carolina Press Association during the Annual Meeting and Awards Lunch on Saturday, April 6 in Columbia.

During the Awards Lunch, Wigger was awarded third place in Food Writing (2-3 Times Weekly) for “Get ready to eat at Oktoberfest.” This article discussed the many food and beverage options during the City of Newberry’s annual Oktoberfest. He was also awarded third place in Lifestyle Feature Writing (2-3 Times Weekly) for his story “A Car Full of Memories.” This story detailed Zeb Reid’s journey in getting the 1955 Chevrolet Nomad which belonged to his dad when Reid was growing up.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized for my work here at The Newberry Observer by the South Carolina Press Association, these awards recognize some of the best journalist in South Carolina, and I’m glad to be a small part of that,” Wigger said.

These are not Wigger’s first awards from the SCPA, last year he received three second place awards and two third place awards in various categories. In 2016, he received a second place award and one first place award as well.

“We here at The Newberry Observer are incredibly proud of Andrew’s accomplishments in receiving these awards,” said Denny Koenders, publisher of The Newberry Observer.
