COLUMBIA — Newberry’s track and field teams competed in one final meet before the South Atlantic Conference outdoor championships, competing at the Gamecock Invitational hosted by South Carolina.

In the Field:

Freshman Isaiah Parker broke his own personal record in the discus by throwing for a mark of 44.06m, good enough for sixth place in the event. Parker would also place 11th in the shot-put event with a 13.95m throw.

Malik Morant and Treyshawn Miller continued their steady improvement throughout the season as both posted new personal records with throws of 12.44m and 11.89m in the shot-put event.

Kayshon Mitchell would also break his personal record in the hammer throw with a 43.46m throw for 11th place in the event. Sophomore Tyrese Grant would come close to eclipsing his career best mark of 6.44m in the long jump with a 6.40m mark today.

D’Arion Johnston maintained her outstanding marks in field events after a 5.42m mark in the long jump, toppling her previous career best set last weekend. Rikaya Williams broke a personal record in the discus as well, making a throw of 32.97m for 15th place.

On the Track:

Much like on the field, Newberry’s performers on the track set several career bests today.

Quinn Wilson broke his personal best in the 1500m with a time of 4:13.72 to place 22nd overall. Chandler Stanley just barely broke his personal best time of 1:00.92 in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.85 at the event.

Tashayna Flinch topped two of her personal bests in the 400m and 800m events with times of 1:01.05 and 2:28.67 respectively. Kenia Smith erased nearly five seconds off her previous record in the 1500m with a time of 6:08.44 in the event today.

Newberry’s Elka Variste, Jayln Dockery, Tahleebah Martin and D’Arion Johnston would set a new record in the 4×100 relay race, finishing with a time of 47.77 for 12th place.

In their final meet before the South Atlantic Conference outdoor championships, multiple Wolves managed to break personal records at the Gamecock Invitational.
