NEWBERRY — For the fourth year, the Newberry County Disabilities and Special Needs Board will be holding their ARTabilities Art Show and Open House on March 27 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at 115 Nance Street, the PRIDE Business Center.

A silent auction will be held from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., with light refreshments being served.

Cindy Farr, director of quality enhancement, said the art show is always held in March to recognize Disabilities Advocacy Awareness Month, and compared to last year they have almost doubled their numbers with around 90 pieces being completed.

Not all of the pieces shown will be available during the auction, but any proceeds from the sale will go directly to the artist.

This year, pieces submitted will range from nature/landscape, whimsical and personal expression. A new category added is called hands down, where the artist uses their hand to create their painting.

“It’s always our goal to make it bigger and better every year, I feel like we’ve been successful this year,” Farr said.

The NCDSNB has also had their yard crew take part, thanks to the rain over the past couple of weeks.

“When it rains like that our yard crew doesn’t always have something to do so this year they have taken pallets and made some arts and crafts with the pallets and they will be selling those as well. Since it has been kind of a team effort to put all of that together instead of the proceeds going directly to the artist, they are going to use it for lunches and stuff like that so it will be something neat for them,” Farr said.

A Stay and Paint day was also held for those in the mobile work crews and volunteers from Newberry Academy also came and helped.

“We want folks to have the opportunity to come and see who we are and what we do. We have it at the PRIDE Business Center so folks will be working and get an opportunity to see the different contracts that are going on, visit PRIDE Park and see that facility. We always have our doors open to the public, we hope folks will come and find out more about us,” Farr said. “Every year we’ve kind of increased with our number of guests, that’s always the goal, we’re just excited.”
