NEWBERRY — The Wolves continue to dominate the opposition, handling Emmanuel 30-9 in Newberry’s home opener Wednesday evening.

Newberry (8-2, 2-0 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas) picked up where they left off this past weekend, getting three falls in the win. Austin Neal (125), ZeBrandon Gant (184) and reigning Wrestler of the Week Patton Gossett (285) displayed peak performance as they pick up the falls.

With the Wolves chomping at the bit to display their talent in front of the home crowd, Neal came out firing, dominating Deven Perez in the first period. With Perez getting winded in the first period, Neal was able to capitalize and get the fall in just under a minute in the second period.

Trevor Mansfield (133) looked to continue the momentum in the second match of the night. Mansfield had a hard-fought battle but fell in a tight 10-8 decision to Emery Cline making it 6-3 in favor of the Wolves. Isiah Royal (141) got Newberry back on track, defeating Nicholas Voiles in dominating fashion with a 7-2 decision.

David Giantono (149) showed great endurance in his match as he and Dalton Flint were neck-and-neck throughout the match. Giantono was able to get and edge and came away with a 9-6 decision win to give the Scarlet and Grey a 12-3 advantage. Austin Palmer (157) was able to keep the tempo up for the Wolves, defeating Kevin Almond with an 8-3 decision.

The Lions were able to pick up the win in the next match as Matthew Schmall was able to sneak out to a 6-4 decision win over Nick Giantono (165) to close the gap, making it 15-6. Joey Rocca (174) got Newberry back on track, defeating Myles Williams in an 11-4 decision victory.

Gant was able to give the Wolves there second fall of the night, defeating Kyle Graham in 4:50 to give Newberry a comfortable 24-6 lead. Emmanuel was able to cut into the lead as Seth Bell got the win over Dylan Eaton in an 8-4 decision win. Gossett closed out the night on a high note, getting the teams third fall in the final frame over Preston Stell.

The Wolves will be back in conference action next Thursday, Jan. 24, as they face Kings at 7 p.m.
