NEWBERRY — Two Newberry High School students were in custody Tuesday night, charged with making the bomb threat that caused Newberry High School to be evacuated Monday morning.

Daisha Kibler, 17, of 217 Bowles Road in Silverstreet, and a 16-year-old juvenile were taken into custody Tuesday afternoon. Both will be charged with Conveying A Bomb Threat, officials said late Tuesday.

The arrests come at the end of the second day of alert at Newberry High School after the students called in a bomb threat to the main line of the school Monday at 10:54 a.m. The school was evacuated and the students sent to a safe location while bomb sniffing dogs came to the school and searched the campus.

Daisha Kibler was taken to the Newberry County Detention Center where she will be formerly charged and a bond hearing will be held sometime Wednesday afternoon. If convicted, Kibler faces a sentence on not less than one year but not more than 10 years.

The juvenile was transported the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia where she will be held until a detention hearing is arranged through the Family Court of South Carolina.

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said more arrests are possible.
