Jaycees Easter egg hunt approaching

Hello everyone. Locals on the way but first the birthday wishes and feel good greeting greetings to our “Whitty” citizens. We send our best feel good wishes and speedy recovery to Mrs. Lou Baker, Mr. Fred Sligh, Mrs. Kerry Johnson, Mrs. Martha Coleman and Mrs. Mattie Hopp. Mrs. Hopp is now home from the hospital and is in physical therapy at home and in Greenwood according to her husband Robert Lee. He said, “Cards and visits are welcome.” The Hopps address is 292 Duckett Avenue, Whitmire. According to Mrs. Coleman’s husband Ken, “Martha is in the rehab center in Laurens, going through physical therapy.”

Upcoming events and people in the news

The youth of First Baptist have a concert outing planned for Friday, March 15. A group from FBC will be attending Winter Jam 2013, a Newsong’s Christian concert. Youth are asked to meet in the church parking lot after school. A fundraiser chicken stew will be held Saturday, March 16 which is St. Patrick’s Day. Cost is $6 per quart. Pick up at church social hall.

FBC has added a new craft group to their ministries. The group meets every Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the social hall. Everyone is invited.

The Whitmire Jaycees annual community Easter Egg Hunt is Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m. at the Heritage Park playground and picnic shelter. A prize egg in each age group. Parents and volunteers are welcome to attend.

The Jaycee will host their second annual Golf in the Pines tournament, Saturday, April 20 at The Whitmire Golf Course. The format is Captain’s Choice and tee time at 9 a.m. Businesses and individuals can support with sponsorships and donations. The Jaycees will have the forms on their Facebook page, Town Hall and the first hole shelter at the course. E-mails can be sent to whitmirejaycees@yahoo.com or suemh@charter.net.

The WCS students will be participating in the BB&T This School’s Got Talent in the next few weeks. Speaking of school, congratulations to teacher Maria M. Thompson. Former Whitmire resident Maria was recognized as Teacher of the Year at Pomaria-Garmany Elemetary School.

Congratulations to Minister Willie Hair and his wife and music director Linda. The members and associates of Sims Chapel Baptist Church celebrated the recent ordination of service for Minister Willie Hair last Sunday. Pastor Hair has served as Associate Pastor of the church for several years. Rev. Micheal Williams is the pastor of Sims Chapel Baptist.
