NEWBERRY — The last basketball game in the county and one of the last in the state will be held tonight in Newberry and the players are asking the community to come support the Wolves.

The Newberry College women’s basketball team takes on Carson-Newman in the quarterfinals of the playoffs in the Newberry College gym at 7 p.m. A win will send them on to the the semifinals in Greenville on Saturday.

And while Coach Sean Page said he would play in an empty gym, a full house would give the Wolves a big home advantage.

Also, with the students away on spring break the community is being asked to support the local team.

Page said he normally has a big crowd from the community at his games but is hoping for even more local fans on Wednesday.

“It would be good if the community will get out and help us have a home court advantage,” said Senior Kendra Brown, adding this will be the last game of the season that the team plays at home.

“We have focused on getting to the playoffs all year,” said player Haylee Lepaio.

Page said his team has worked hard to get to the playoffs, which are normally held the week before spring break.

He added that his team has only lost one home game this season and in the past three years have had one perfect home stand and the other with only a loss.

The team also is boasting a 55-10 record and promise local fans that they will see a great game.

“We have the third most wins of any team,” said Page of the team’s playoff victories.

The team only has one senior and Page is expecting a good team again next season.

“This is your last chance this year to see a really good basketball team play at home,” he added.

Tickets for the game are $6 for adults or $5 with a Food Lion MVP Card and $3 for college students with an identification card and for children under 12. No free admission passes will be allowed.
