NEWBERRY — The Newberry Opera House will host Leahy, a Canadian superstar band with a unique and exciting mix of folk, country and Celtic band music on March 10 at 3 p.m.

New Cape Briton fiddlers Leahy are a Canadian family of eight musical brothers and sisters who have been playing together their entire lives. The band’s three acclaimed CDs — Leahy, Lakefield, and In All Things — have worldwide sales of over half a million copies.

The style that has come to be known as their name itself — “Leahy.” They have achieved acclaim and awards such as Junos for Best New Group, Best Country Group and Best Instrumental Album, the most played folk/roots songs in Canada in 2004 and the Socan award for Folk/Jazz instrumentalist the following year.

Leahy’s self-titled album rose to No. 4 on the Billboard world music charts and can be heard on the soundtrack of the award-winning movie The Hanging Garden.

Leahy brings its whole being to each and every performance. In fact, their life story reads like a Hollywood movie – a large family raised without a television on a farm in the small town of Lakefield, Ontario, Canada. The story became the subject of an Oscar winning documentary — The Leahys: Music Most of All. The film foretold the success that would follow, which included sharing the bill on Shania Twain’s 1999 national concert tour along with their own sterling and exciting tours.

Tickets are available at the Newberry Opera House box office by calling 276-6264 or at www.newberryoperahouse.com.
