NEWBERRY — Funeral services for Mr. Sammie Bounkight, 103, will be conducted on Friday, March 1, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Hannah A.M.E. Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to service.

Mr. Bouknight departed this life on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013. Born in Newberry, he was the son of the late Eddie and Elnora Bobo Bouknight. He joined Hannah A.M.E. Church at an early age where he served and worked in several areas of the church as a class leader, a trustee and a member of the choir. He was also a member of Sons of Aid.

Mr. Bouknight received his early education from the old and historic Hannah Church School. In his early years, he worked as a farmer. He later worked at Martin Seed Feed Company as an assistant and a truck driver and retired as a security guard from U.S. Plywood and Louis Rich.

Mr. Bouknight was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Arsula F. Bouknight; a daughter, Mrs. Maude E. Harper; a son, Mr. James Clyde Bouknight; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Para Lee Bouknight and Mrs. Archie Mae Bouknight; one son-in-law, Mr. Bernon Harper.

Surviving are two sons, Rev. Timothy Bouknight (Georgia) of Springfield, Mass.; Mr. Sammie Bouknight (Mable) of Newberry; two daughters, Ms. Annie Pearl Harris of Dorchester, Mass.; Ms. Barbara B. Moore of Newberry; one brother, Mr. Jasper Bouknight and one sister, Ms. Doris Davenport both of Washington, D.C.; 24 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Mr. Isaiaih Floyd (Thelma); two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mary Dawkins of Newberry and Ms. Azalee Floyd of Greenwood; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
