PROSPERITY — George Harvey Caldwell, 92, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on Oct. 29, 1920, in Newberry, he was a son of the late William Hunter and Minnie Boyd Brown Caldwell. He was a graduate of Little Mountain High School and was retired after 32 years from the U.S. Air Force where he served in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Mr. Caldwell was a member of Cannon’s Creek A.R.P. Church, a lifetime member of the Little Mountain Masonic Lodge and Ruritan Club, the Hejaz Shrine Temple and was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts. He was a member of the American Legion where he served as a former president and also a member of the 40 and 8.

He is survived by his wife, Lucia Josey Caldwell; a son, Kinney Caldwell of Prosperity; a daughter, Debra Shealy of Newberry; grandchildren, Cody Caldwell, Amber Lominick, Jay Carraway and Keely Livingston; great-grandchildren, Brent, Luke, Tori, Jack, Scotlyn, Lawson, Weston, Sidney and Riley. Mr. Caldwell was predeceased by a brother, William Hunter Caldwell Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 950 West Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

Active pallbearers will be Robert Bobb, Billy Dill, Bernie Eargle, Thad Mayes, Clyde “Buck” Minick and Marty Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dickie Floyd and Glenn Hamm Jr..
