NEWBERRY — A new container behind Main Street businesses will keep cardboard out of the landfill and add to the county’s recycling efforts.
The City of Newberry recently received a grant from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control to recycle cardboard.
The city has partnered with Newberry County and Newberry County Keep America Beautiful to put a recycling container in the Friend Street parking area behind Armfield’s Office Supply. Main Street businesses will be able to use the container.
Newberry Assistant City Manager Matt DeWitt said anyone can put cardboard items into the container.
“It is a win-win for everyone,” said DeWitt. “It keeps waste out of the landfill and adds to the county’s recycling efforts.”
He also hopes the new recycling container will keep cardboard from being thrown into the nearby city trash bin.
