WHITMIRE — Hattie M. Dawkins Henderson, 80, of 480 Duckett Avenue, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at her home. She was born in Newberry County, daughter of the late Moses and Bessie Bates Dawkins. She retired from the public school system of Newberry County and was a member oft he Seekwell Baptist Church. She was also a member of Bright Star Chapter No. 245 Order of the Eastern Star and Women’s Home Aide Society No. 74.

She is survived by her children, Notreanne Henderson of Philadelphia, Pa., Mahala Henderson of Whitmire, Terry Henderson of the home, Deaconess Tracey (Alfonza) Walker of Inglewood, Calif., Michael (Sandra) Henderson of Jonseboro, Ga., Lee Henderson of Sheppard’s Air Force Base Texas and Teresa Henderson of Greenville; adopted children, Shirley (Melvin) Kelly of Clayton, N.C., Harmon Whitener of Orangeburg; special children Leon (Sandra) Whitener, Laval Randy Epps and Kevin (Sharetha) Whitener; siblings Louise Jeter of Carlilse, Elizabeth (Marvin) Kingcade of Philadelphia, Pa., Yancy (Betty) Dawkins of Newberry, Bernice (Willie) Carwile of Greenville and Alfred (Kathyrn) Dawkins of Law Vegas, Nev.; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Seekwell Baptist Church located at 6166 Brazelmans Bride Road, Whitmire.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
