Newberry wins 11th straight, thumps Mid-Carolina 94-55

NEWBERRY — The Newberry High Bulldog boys basketball team was victorious for the 33rd straight time during the past two years inside the county as they never trailed in a 94-55 victory over Mid-Carolina High School on Thursday night in Scott Gym.

With their 11th straight win this calendar year, Newberry improves to 22-2 on the season and finishes undefeated in regional play at 10-0 for the first time since the 2006-07 season.

Mid-Carolina finishes its season with an overall record of 8-15 and 2-8 in the region. Alongside Ninety Six, the Rebels were the only other regional team to score at least 55 points in both meetings with Newberry.

Kaheem Praylow scored the first six points for Newberry as the Bulldogs led 27-10 after the opening quarter.

For the second straight quarter, seven Bulldogs made their way into the scoring books as they combined to score 24 points, as opposed to the Rebels’ 16. Newberry took a 51-26 lead into the locker rooms.

Newberry’s Trey Gary ended a seven-game streak of not scoring any points as his five points in the third stanza helped the Bulldogs go on a 20-11 run as the home team had a 71-37 advantage heading into the final eight minutes of the game.

Gary, who went into the game having scored 10 points for a high this season, got eight of his 15 points on the night, including going four-of-four from the free throw line, in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs finished the game on a 23-18 run in the final quarter of play.

Besides Gary, 12 other Bulldogs scored including Jalin Alexander who scored 11 points. Praylow ended the night also in double digits as he saw 10 points go in. Jaylen Lindsay, Tovaris Cureton and Dominic Gilmore scored eight points apiece for the Bulldogs.

Notorious Booker and Devin Harmon scored seven points each while Bennett Wilson dropped in six points. Greely Saddler finished with five points on the night while Jeremy Summers finished with four. Trey Miller scored three points while the Newberry scoring ended with the two points of Raquon Davenport.

Chris Boyd and Tevarres Taylor scored 10 points apiece for Mid-Carolina while Brent Caldwell finished with seven. Cornelius Glasgow and Dante Boyd scored six points each while Mackenzie Flemon saw five points go in. Marcus Chapman finished with four points, Zach Parker scored three, as the Mid-Carolina scoring ended with the two points of Javarious Nelson and Marcus McMorris.
