Newberry College Jazz Big Band announces tour dates

NEWBERRY — The Newberry College Jazz Big Band will travel on its annual tour from Feb. 3 through Feb. 6, performing at high schools and Lutheran churches throughout the southeast.

The Jazz Big Band is made up of students from Newberry College with varying majors who will present the best in big band, swing, jazz and ballads. Bill Long, associate professor of music, is the director.

Locally, the Jazz Big Band will perform at 7 p.m. Feb. 5 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Walhalla and at 10 a.m. Feb. 6 at Pickens High School Auditorium in Pickens.

Other venues will include Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Lilburn, Ga., at 4 p.m. Feb. 3; St. Matthews Lutheran Church sanctuary in Columbus, Ga., at 7 p.m. Feb. 4; Shaw High School Band Room in Columbus, Ga., at 2 p.m. Feb. 4; and Columbus State University Band Room in Columbus, Ga., at 10:45 a.m. Feb. 5.

The Jazz Big Band’s next performance with trombonist Conrad Herwig will be at the 56th annual Newberry College Jazz Festival on March 2 in Wiles Chapel on the Newberry College campus.
