NEWBERRY - Tony Roland Phillips, 72, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at InterMedical Hospital.
Born on Oct. 30, 1940, in Joanna, he was the son of the late Dwight H. “Pete” and Ethel Harrelson Phillips.
He attended the University of South Carolina. He was the owner of Phillip’s Plumbing for 20 years and had previously worked for Daniel International for 30 years. He was also the former owner of Tony’s Grocery and Grill as well as several other restaurants over the years. Mr. Phillips enjoyed antiques and attending auctions and was an avid collector of cast iron and kitchen ware. He enjoyed traveling and raising goats.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jean Davis Phillips; sons, Russell, Todd and Anthony; daughters, Jana, Veronique and Hamilton “Prissy”; a sister, Ann Phillips Stone; grandchildren, Martin Ray, Garret, Caitlin, Sierra, Cole, Daisy, Colin, Christopher, Melissa, R.J., Amber, Kyle, Anthony, Christy and Crystal and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Phillips was predeceased by a son-in-law, Ray Snelgrove.
Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Eddie Bledsoe.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Boy’s Farm, 6655 SC Highway 34/121, Newberry, SC 29108.
