Middle schools battle in basketball

NEWBERRY — The Mid-Carolina Middle boys outscored the Newberry Middle School boys team by one point Monday while the Newberry girls kept the Mid-Carolina girls to single digits in its win.

The Newberry Middle girls defeated Mid-Carolina by a score of 38-9.

Rayanna Davis was the top scorer for Newberry with 17 points and Rehgan Miller added another 12 points for the Tigers.

Rounding out the scoring was Kelsey Felks with five points, and Nigeria Davis and Lindsey Ruff each had two points.

Charlsy Traylor was the top scorer for Mid-Carolina with six points and she had six rebounds.

Chazity Counts made two points and had a rebound and Alex Fulmer scored a point

Gracen Hester had a rebound and a steal and Callie Blanchard and Taylor Swygert each had a steal.

The Mid-Carolina Middle boys improved their record to 4-1 after a 36-35 win over Newberry.

Iyon Thompson was the top scorer with 14 points and he added two steals, three assists, three blocked shots and five rebounds.

Cade Ruff folloed with 10 points and had two steals, three assists and two rebounds.

Corey Stone added six points, two steals, four assists, a blocked shot and four rebounds.

Zachary Hentz made three points, a steal, two assists and five rebounds.

Jaterran Wise had three points, a steal and three rebounds.

Keenan Boland had three steals and two assists for the Rebels

R.J. Wadsworth also had three rebounds.

For the Newberry Tigers Tyrell Mendenhall had 10 points, Sentrell Quattlebaum had six points and P.J. Wright, Malcolm Aiken and Derrick Scurry all had four points.

Tariq Goodman added three points and Robert Houston and Khaleed Hare had two points.
