Hello everyone, ready or not 2013 is here. Remember the The Jetsons cartoon era? I am going to assume most folks reading the column remember the Jetsons. Most of us are over 45 anyway. It was futuristic animated show with video cell and home phones, flying cars, space ships and such.

Anyway, I digress, let’s do the birthday wishes from Gottrocks the Birthday Fairy. Happy birthday to Katie S. Hefner, Eric Thompson, Ruth (First Lady) Hollingsworth, Jarrett “JayBird” Gilliam, Donnie Price, Jackie Seymore, Kay Ammons. Special wishes to Annette Bullard. We send our best wishes and prayers, many people are thinking of you.

To our former residents, Barry Batson and Beth Crocker.

On a sad note, we send our sympathies wishes to the families of Mrs. Idella Widener Hare, Mrs. Ruth Tyler, Ms. April Holmes and Mrs. Allene Aughtry. Mrs. Aughtry will be remembered as a longtime educator, as she taught many years at Whitmire High School.

Helping our neighbors

The new year holiday also brought house fires to Whitmire families. The latest house fire destroyed the home of Mr. and Mrs. “Snag” and Brenda Bodie. The Bodies lost everything in their Sims Street home. They are in need of clothing, household items and furniture. Here are the sizes for both: Brenda, 8-10 pants/slacks, 7 medium shoes and large shirt; “Snag,” 42/29 pants/slacks, size 8 shoe, extra-large shirt size. For further information, contact Whitmire Volunteer Fire Chief Micheal Thomas at 803-271-6379 or e-mail him at mpthomas00@gmail.com.

Whitmire folks are known for their kindness and generosity when it comes to disasters. Let’s keep this act of humanity going for 2013. We can also keep our local help store going with The Lighthouse Ministry. Donation can be made the store too. The Lighthouse volunteers are always willing to help in time of crisis. They are located on Main Street in the former Simpson’s Building.

Well alright readers, a short and sweet one this week. The news fairies Garabund and Gottrocks have been on downtime after the holiday events.

A week or two of rest, then they will be on my shoulders and laptop soon.

We want to hear from you so send us your news, photos, civic and church events: news2cassie@yahoo.com.
