NEWBERRY — Main Street will be lighting the way for Jesus and Santa on Christmas Eve.
The Main Street neighbors are working to once again light the sidewalks with luminaries.
The residents will start lighting them around dusk on Christmas Eve and they will burn until they go out.
Agnes Routon and David DuBose both have bags for neighbors to get and a trailer load of sand to put in the bags is available in The Newberry Observer’s parking lot.
Newberry Assistant City Manager Matt DeWitt says any one in the city wanting to set up luminaries for Christmas Eve is welcome to get a bit of the sand.
While the sand is donated by Willingham and Sons and the bags by the City of Newberry, the residents are responsible for purchasing the votive candles, setting up the bags, lighting them and then cleaning up the debris.
The community is invited to stroll or drive along Main Street to enjoy the lights on Christmas Eve.
