NEWBERRY — John Luther Counts, 91, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at the Heritage at Lowman.

Born on Sept. 21, 1921, in Newberry, he was the son of the late J. L. and Anna Wertz Counts. He was a World War II Army veteran, retired from Newberry Mills and a member of West End Baptist Church.

Mr. Counts is survived by his wife, Attice Holland Counts; a daughter, Rita Counts Cumalander of Columbia; granddaughters, Rachel (Frank) Cumalander Jurkovic and Andrea (Jason) Cumalander Livingston and a great-granddaughter, Stella Alma Jurkovic.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home by the Rev. David Lyles. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church, 620 Main Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
