KANSAS CITY, Kan. — For the second straight season the Newberry women’s soccer team has seen an individual honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as a selection to the Division II All-Southeast Region third team, as sophomore Gabrielle Brodie was named to the team on Tuesday.
Brodie (Rolleston, Canterbury, New Zealand), was honored earlier in the off season as a DAKTRONICS All-Southeast Region First Team selection.
Brodie, a first team All-South Atlantic Conference honoree, finished the season with 10 goals, two assists and 22 points, including one game winning goal. The Kiwi wrapped up 2012 fourth in the SAC in goals and sixth in points.
Last season, Cassie Smith was honored by the NSCAA, while in 2009 goalkeeper Emily Rhoades received a second team nod.
Brodie joins a pair of Newberry’s top attackers on the list of all-region selections. Brodie is the first Newberry attacking player to earn NSCAA honors since the top scorer in school history, Inga Woiwode, earned second team honors in 2007.
Woiwode was a three-time NSCAA honoree, while former Newberry goal scorer Adriana Farfan earned a second-team spot in 2004.
In November, Brodie became the first ever Newberry player to earn all-region first team honors when DAKTRONICS named her a first-team selection. As a sophomore, Brodie ranks No. 10 all-time in career points and No. 9 in career goals scored
