ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Newberry College sophomore midfielder Gabrielle Brodie has been named to the 2012 DAKTRONICS All-Southeast Region Women’s Soccer Team. The team is selected by the sports information directors of the NCAA Division II Southeast Region.

This is the first all-region selection for Brodie (Rolleston, Canterbury, New Zealand), who was recently named to the All-South Atlantic Conference First Team. Brodie finished the season with 10 goals, two assists and 22 points, including one game winning goal. The Kiwi finished the season fourth in the SAC in goals and sixth in points.

Brodie’s impressive sophomore season included three multi-goal matches. On Sept. 1 in a 5-0 victory over Bob Jones, Brodie recorded two goals and two assists, including an assist on the game winning goal.

As only a sophomore, Brodie ranks No. 10 all-time at Newberry in career points and No. 9 in career goals scored.

Brodie is the second player in Newberry history to be honored as an All-Southeast Region selection by DAKTRONICS, and the fifth player to earn any All-Region honors. The selection of Brodie as a member of the first team marks the first time a Newberry women’s soccer player has ever earned first team all-region honors.

With her first team all-region honors, Brodie is now eligible for All-American status, which will be released later this month.
