ROCK HILL — Newberry College sophomore Haylee Lepaio has been named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Lepaio (Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia) finished the week with a pair of double-doubles, the first of which came in a 59-51 Newberry victory at No. 20 Lander. Against the Lady Bearcats, the Australian posted 17 points and 11 rebounds in 28 minutes of action.
While the Wolves fell 67-58 at Francis Marion on Saturday, Lepaio put in another double-double performance as she scored 21 points and recorded 14 rebounds against the Patriots.
Lepaio averaged 19 points and 12.5 rebounds over the last week, while shooting 61.5-percent from the field. In two games, Lepaio also added three assists, while averaging 28.5 minutes per game.
The selection of Lepaio as SAC Player of the Week, marks the second straight week a Newberry student-athlete has received the honor in women’s basketball as Samantha Creed earned the honor a week ago.
