NEWBERRY — The Newberry County School Board had the swearing in of three re-elected board members Monday night.

Jody Hamm, Ike Bledsdoe and Lucy Anne Meetze all will return for another four years serving on school board. Hamm serves district 4 and ran unopposed, Bledsdoe serves district 1 and ran unopposed and Meetze serves district 3 and beat out opponent Brent Connelly.

District 6 will receive a new board member and Jessie Reeder beat out incumbent Gregg Taylor. Reeder was not able to attend the swearing in on Monday and will be sworn in at the December board meeting.

A special presentation was made to the Newberry County Career Center’s FFA group from the Agricultural Expo committee.

The Ag Expo chairs Julie Hamm and Lisa Sligh presented a check worth $2,500 to the members.

All of the FFA members volunteered more than 200 hours at the expo, according to agriculture instructor and FFA adviser Josh Waters.

The FFA is one of the signature groups that the Ag Expo has helped this year.

In Newberry High news, Assistant Superintendent for Operations Jim Suber gave an update on the Newberry High construction update.

The high school has been undergoing construction to upgrade the building since the beginning of this summer.

Suber said that the 100 wing of the high school is now complete with some minor details to finish.

There is a final inspection scheduled for Nov. 20 and there is also an inspection scheduled for the mini theater.

Suber reported that by the end or around the Thanksgiving holiday, the high school should be able to move in students to the 100 wing after the Thanksgiving break.
