Hello everyone and happy Halloween.

Lots going on in town this week, so let’s begin with our birthday wishes from Gottrocks the Birthday Fairy. Happy Libra and Scorpio birthdays to: Janie Lusk, Charles Worthy, Joan Wagner, Autumn Gilliam, Kathy Crumpton, Vonda K. Hunt, Thurmon Glenn, Jody O. Garmon, Lana Burnnett and Lynlee Thompson.

Special wishes to our former residents and friends: Margie P. Davis, Jenn West, Hazel G.Pittendreigh, Louise Frost and Lynn Eargle. And yes, my birthday was spent with Gottrocks as he threatened to do the 53 licks spanking thing, that he channeled from my parents. Remember the days when your folks teased you about a birthday whipping, to go with the bag of switches that Santa was designated to bring you? You know I digress. More good wishes as we send our happy anniversary wishes to Dr. Terrell E. and Alisa Fowler III.

Upcoming community events

The staff and friends of Pearl’s Café are sponsoring a fund raiser supper this Friday at Pearl’s Café on Main Street for Whitmire resident Lynn Simmons Frick. The dinner menu includes turkey, dressing and all the other trimmings. Dinner will be ready at 5 p.m. and is eat-in or take out.

The Whitmire Jaycees says thank you to all who participated in the Main Street Yard Sale on Oct. 6. A good turn out was made by vendors and customers.

The Jaycees will host their first 2012 Stump Meeting on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at The Whitmire Community Center. The center is located on Park Street, at the east end of Main Street. This is free event to all citizens to come see and hear candidates from Newberry, Union and Laurens counties. There will be a question and answer session at the end of the designated question period. For more information contact Amy Silvers at 944-1959 or Sue Hollingswoth at 694-3797.

The Business Alliance Of Newberry will host their 2012 Candidate Forum on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Newberry Opera House. A gathering in the lobby and candidates take the stage at 6 p.m. Reservations are suggested.

The official Trick or Treat night in Whitmire is this Saturday. A special Trunk or Treat on Main Street will occur with individuals and groups who are welcome to participate. The Jaycees plan on an orange theme. Feel free to wear your costume and decorate your vehicles’ trunk or cab. The Halloween Carnival will be within walking distance at the city gym. The long running carnival will start at 7 p.m.

This long running festival is sponsored by the Whitmire Athletic Booster Club. This event is for all ages, and will feature inflatable rides at the adjoining tennis courts, games, a costume contest for all ages, plenty of carnival food, and music.

Halloween ain’t even over yet; now we’re talking about Christmas. The Whitmire Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 8 at noon. Line up is at 11 a.m. on North Main Street. There is no entry fee. Individuals, church groups, and businesses who want to rent a float can contact The Whitmire Jaycees at the above numbers. More information will be available in future editions.

Well readers, it’s that time again. Garabund the Deadline Fairy needs help with his Halloween costume. Looks like I am the only one here to dust wings and hem his tights. We meet here again next week so let’s hear from you. Feel free to send your news bits, photos and events to: news2cassie@yahoo.com
