ROCK HILL — Newberry College senior setter Blair Browning has been named the South Atlantic Conference Specialist of the Week, while junior outside hitter Samantha Parrish has been named the SAC Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.

Browning, from New Lexington, Ohio, earns a league honor for the first time in her career. In Newberry’s 3-0 week, she averaged 12.45 assists and 2.45 digs per set. She had 55 assists, 15 digs and six kills in the win over Anderson, 51 assists in the win over Lenoir-Rhyne and 31 assists and 10 digs in the win over Brevard. For the season, she is averaging 7.7 assists per set and recently became just the third player in Newberry history with over 2,000 career assists.

Parrish, from Angola, Ind., took over the conference lead in kills this season with 284 total, and joined the 1,000-kill career club. She is in second place all-time at Newberry and needs only 125 kills to take over the top spot. She had 23 kills and 14 digs in the win over Anderson, 22 kills and 13 digs in the win over L-R and 10 kills and six digs in the sweep of Brevard.

Behind these excellent performances, the Wolves have now won four straight matches and five of the last six entering a three-match road swing this week.

Newberry played Lander on Tuesday, at Carson-Newman on Friday and at Lincoln Memorial on Saturday.
