The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a robbery at the Shell Station located at Highway 34 and I-26 in Newberry.

Last night around 9:25 p.m., the suspect entered the store with a red hooded sweatshirt on over his head and a towel or some other cloth material over the bottom portion of his face.

The suspect handed the clerk a note with instructions to give him money, according to Sheriff Lee Foster.

The cashier placed the money into a plastic bag and the suspect fled the store on foot.

Investigators say that the bloodhounds responded to the scene and tracked a trail to the back of store where the trail ended. It is believed that the suspect got into a vehicle and fled at this point.

The clerk described the suspect as a black male. She further described as 16- to 21-years-old and 5’6” to 5”8” tall and of a medium build.

Investigators say that the suspect never claimed to have a weapon or produced a weapon during the incident; however, at this point in the investigation they cannot eliminate the possibility that the suspect did in fact have a weapon.

A complete investigation into the incident is ongoing at this time.

A sizable reward is being offered for the identification and arrest of the person responsible for this robbery.

If you have information about the robbery call the Sheriff's Office at 321-2222.
