Newberry police charged J. Amir Glenn, 27, of Greenwood, last night with two counts of attempted murder, criminal conspiracy and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Glenn was also charged on three outstanding warrants for distribution of drugs and distribution of drugs in the proximity of a school or park.
On July 21, two people were shot with one bullet near the intersections of Main Street, Winnsboro Road and Pike Circle.
The bullet grazed one person in the hand and hit a second person in the leg.
Newberry Police Investigator Kevin Atkins says more charges and arrests are possible in the case and that the shooting is still under investigation.
Also, Anthony Wise, 21, 0f 201 Church St., Prosperity surrendered to deputies this morning on three counts of attempted murder.
Three warrants for attempted murder have also been signed against Michael Dewayne Wise, 25, of 201 Church St., Prosperity.
At press time, Michael Wise remained at large.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact deputies at 321-2222 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CrimeSC.
The two men are cousins, says Sheriff Lee Foster.
Also around 1:30 a.m. July 22, three people, including one in a wheelchair, were shot while in a yard on Gary Street in the Helena community just west of the city limits of Newberry.
Witnesses tell sheriff’s deputies the gunshots came from a van that was in the neighborhood, said Foster.
The van matching the description of the one in the shooting was later found abandoned in a nearby ditch.
Investigators say that it does not appear that anyone else was involved in the Helena shooting, but that it could have been in retaliation of the Main Street shooting.
The shotgun used in the Helena shooting has been recovered.
