Bicyclists participating in the Alzheimer’s Association "A Ride to Remember" depart from Hampton Inn on Nance Street tomorrow at 7 a.m.

The cyclists start their 3-day ride across the state in Newberry to raise funds to fight Alzheimer’s disease.

To date, 60 riders have raised over $33,000.

The Ride to Remember is a 3-day, 260+ mile fundraising ride for the Alzheimer’s Association—South Carolina Chapter. The cross-state route begins in the Upstate and ends at the South Carolina coast.

By 2010, an estimated 80,000 South Carolinians will be living with Alzheimer’s or related dementia.

Funds raised through the ride will help the Association provide much needed local support for those affected by Alzheimer's disease in South Carolina and also help fund research efforts on a national level.

The Alzheimer's Association is a voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. Its mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

The group’s vision is a world without Alzheimer’s.
