The penny sales tax if passed will fund 13 projects including:
—a new Piedmont Technical College campus
—water and sewer improvements
—Whitmire town annex renovations
—Opera house renovations
—a Little Mountain trail head
—Council on Aging expansion
—the Prosperity Depot renovations
—Mid-Carolina Commerce Park improvements
—three new fire substations.
All of the council members gave their nod for the third and final reading of the ordinance.
In other business discussed by County Council:
• Third reading was given to rezone 4.71 acres at Ira Kinard and Lake roads to general commercial from single family residential. The property houses an unoccupied convenience store and storage facility.
• Third reading was given to continue the lease of property on the Springfield Place campus to Palmetto Health.
• Second reading was given to borrow almost $3 million to refinance county loans in an effort for the county to save money.
• Second reading was given to join with Fairfield County in a joint industrial park. The agreement will give the new company Rollcast more economic incentives.
• Second reading was given to make personnel policies of the county a resolution verses an ordinance.
• The county’s public works department is investigating replacing the Berley Road bridge and storm water drainage problems at the Lake Murray Public Safety Complex.
• The Aug. 4 County Council meeting has been canceled.
