Only three men have filed to run in the September elections that will position a new mayor in the city chambers and allow newcomers to vie for district seats 1,3 and 5.

Two incumbents, Zebbie Goudelock and Thomas Boyd have signed on for re-election for their district seats 1 and 3.

Current councilman Foster Senn, a representative for Distirct 2, is the only other candidate who has filed. Senn is seeking the mayorship.

“No other individuals have signed up,” said Tina Wicker, human resources director and city clerk.

Current longtime mayor Ed Kyzer recently said he would not seek reelection this year.

The District 5 seat, which is held by LeMont Glasgow, also opens.

If Senn is elected mayor, a special election will be necessary to fill his current council seat. It is too early to set the date for this special election, said Wicker.

There is no limit on how many years the mayor or council members can hold a position. Candidates must be a qualified voter and live in the district they hope to represent.

Potential candidates have until noon July 16 to sign up.
