Potential candidates can signup to run for mayor or a council seat until noon July 16.
The filing fees for mayor are $288 and $144 for council seats.
The six city council seats last 4-year terms and each represent a city district.
The terms are staggered with seats 1, 3, 5 and the mayorship open for reelection this year. The positions are currently held by R. Lemont Glasgow, Zebbie Goudelock and T. Louis Boyd and Ed Kyzer respectively.
Seats 2, 4 and 6 open for re-election in 2012.
There is no limit on how many years the mayor or council members can hold a position. Candidates must be a qualified voter and live in the district they hope to represent.

The election is Sept. 14.
