Born in Joanna on July 27, 1948, he was a son of the late Perry W. and Willie Mae Gentry Turner.
He was a graduate of Spartanburg Junior College and also attended Georgia State. He retired from AT&T after 40 years of service. Terry enjoyed coaching the American Legion Post 24 Baseball Team from 1998 to 2000 and was an avid fisherman and golfer.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and the Men in Mission Committee of 100. He served several times on Congregational Council and had also served for many years as communion usher.
Mr. Turner is survived by his wife Cathy Haltiwanger Turner; his daughter and son-in-law Lori and Jay Justice of Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters, Margaret Wike of Winston, Ga., Ann Green of Hapeville, Ga. and Martha Hall of Greenwood; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Joyce Turner of Clinton; mother- and father-in-law, Betty and Ed Haltiwanger of Newberry; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Harriett Haltiwanger and Curtis and Debbie Haltiwanger all of Newberry; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Osborne Nichols.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer by the Rev. Caldwell Day. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the residence and will received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry.
Active pallbearers will be Ron Jackson, Todd Sanders, Larry Morris, Tim Owen, Walter Shealy, Russell Shealy, Ray Cotton, Ricky Perry, Carl Setzler, Alan Gardner, and John “Chubby” Lester (in memoriam).

Rollins, Jeff Medvec, Mike Hallman, Benjie Hallman, Billy O’Dell, Arnold Hiller, Wyman Cook, Bobby Smith, Milton Shealy, Chris Metts, Jason Walker, Johnny Scurry, Joey Kitchen, Eddie Graham and members of the Redeemer B Team Communion Ushers.
