Two people escaped a house fire on First Street early yesterday.

The Father’s Day fire broke out in the kitchen area of the mobile home at 1310 First St. in Newberry around 7:45 a.m., according to Newberry Fire Chief Keith Minick.

When firefighters arrived on the scene they found the fire had come through the front of the home and power lines were down in the yard.

At the time of the fire one person was asleep and the other person in the house was able to wake the sleeping woman and both people were able to get out of the burning home.

Minick says it did not appear that the smoke detectors were working in the home at the time of the fire.

The fire totally destroyed the mobile home.
