Horse Camp with classes for youth interested in learning how to ride a horse will be offered by Lander University’s Equestrian Center as part of the university’s continuing education summer program. The youth horsemanship summer camp runs in two sessions taught by Lander equestrian team coach Mary Hughston with assistance from Equestrian Center director Nancy Poston. Students will learn about the various horse breeds, grooming and tacking techniques and receive basic riding instruction. At the end of each session, students can demonstrate horsemanship skills they learned for family and friends. The first session for ages 7-9 years old is from 8:30 a.m.-11 a.m., June 14-17. The second class for ages 10 to 13 is from 8:30 a.m.-11 a.m., June 28-July 1. Dance Camp hosted by the Newberry Ballet Guild at Griffin School of Dance will be July 19-22 from 9 a.m.-noon for potty-trained youth ages 2 and up. Learn dance techniques, ballet, tap and jazz routines along with a stage makeup and hair class. Bring a snack and a drink. The camp ends with a 6 p.m. Friday performance. Camp cost is $65.
