Former Whitmire, Prosperity police officer behind bars

A former police officer who worked in Whitmire and Prosperity will be spending the next six months behind bars.

James Brian Steele pleaded guilty to misconduct in office yesterday after admitting to accepting sex with a woman in exchange for overlooking a drug charge while working for the Clinton Police Department in 2008.

Steele reportedly was called to a civil disturbance at a home when he noticed drugs and marijuana in the home. Steel admitting to soliciting oral sex from the woman in exchange for not charging her with the drugs, according to Mark Plowden spokesman with the S.C. Attorney General’s Office.

Steele was sentenced to eight years in prison; suspended to six months in prison followed by four years probation. He will also be required to complete 300 hours of community service.

Steele worked for the Whitmire Police Department from September 2003 until January 2005 and for a short time for the Prosperity Police Department in 2009.

As listed on your statement it happen in 2008 while working in Clinton SC and he was a Police Officer in Prosperity 2009.

What a shame.

When I was younger a Police was your FRIEND and HELPER...........NOT ANY MOORE...........
