Jarvis Griffin, 18, of 213 Caldwell St., Newberry, passed away in the house fire at his residence on Sunday, according to Coroner Craig Newton.
Newton says an autopsy yesterday confirmed that Griffin died due to carbon monoxide poisoning and thermal injuries from the fire.
“The death has been ruled accidental and no foul play is suspected,” said Newton.
The fire started just after 10:30 a.m. and totally destroyed the home.
According to Newberry Fire Chief Keith Minick, the home did not appear to have working smoke detectors, but others in the home made it out without injuries.
The cause of the fire, which was responded to by more than 40 firefighters, has yet to be determined.
