The call came in between 8:30 and 9 p.m. stating that flames could be seen in the night sky from a possible house fire.
When Prosperity firefighters arrived on the scene they found a two-story house on a pond off Bachman Chapel Road engulfed in flames.
Firefighter Glenn Hamm, who was in control of the firefighting efforts, said everything in the house that could burn was on fire.
As firefighters made their way on foot to the blaze, due to the small road leading to the house, hoses were laid from a tanker to a fire engine before the crews began to pump water from the pond to fight the fire.
Hamm said to protect the safety of the firefighters, and due to the structure already being destroyed, that the firefighters set up an offensive attack to contain the blaze.
The Prosperity and St. Phillips fire departments and the Prosperity Rescue Squad were called to the scene. Little Mountain’s fire department brought foam to the fire and Hamm said firefighters from around the county assisted with putting out the blaze.
Warm temperatures combined with heavy gear and the heat of the fire, led to calling in the Prosperity Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary to be on the offensive to combat heat exhaustion in the firefighters. The provided drinks and other items to assist the firefighters.
The house was a total loss.
The fire is under investigation by the Prosperity Fire Department and the Sheriff’s Office.
