A 25-year-old Chapin man was killed after running a stop sign in Richland County Monday morning.

The wreck occurred around 1:15 a.m. at West Shady Grove Road and North Julius Richardson Road.

A 1998 GMAC pickup reportedly went through the stop sign at the intersection and hit an embankment, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Trooper R.J. Hughes.

The driver in the single vehicle wreck, Robert T. Russell, of Old Road, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Russell was not wearing a seatbelt according to the Highway Patrol.
