Many local incumbents emerged from the filing period with no opposition in the upcoming round of elections. One exception is the race for the seat in County Council District 6 where voters will go to the polls in the primary and general election.

District 6 Incumbent Bill Waldrop will face former county emergency services director Tommy Longshore in the Democratic primary. Competing for the same seat is lone Republican candidate, firefighter and School Board member Gregg Taylor. Taylor will face the winner of the Democratic primary in November.

Also on the November ballot will be the countywide referendum on the capital projects penny sales tax.

District 40 Democratic incumbent Rep. Walt McLeod, Probate Court Judge Kelly Noble, and county councilmen Henry “Buddy” Livingston, District 3, and John Caldwell, District 7, are all unopposed. Unless a write-in candidate makes a run for their positions, all will be reupped for another term come November.

In the State House District 15 race, Laurens County Councilman David Tribble is running unopposed on the Republican ticket. The seat is currently held by Jeff Duncan, who is making a run for U.S. Congress, District 3.

The primaries will be held June 8, with the last day to register to vote in the primaries being May 8. The general election will be held on Nov. 2.
