The Newberry Academy J.V. baseball team traveled to Greenwood Christian Friday and came home with a convincing 12-1 win.

Newberry was led at the plate by Justin Suber and Derek Sligh, as each player would score three times.

Sligh and Sean Blanton blasted triples, and Suber launched a ball to the fence and scored after two throwing errors.

Alex Cole was the winning pitcher, allowing only three hits and striking out six in four innings of work.

Jake Buzhardt finished on the mound for the Eagles, striking out two in the last inning.

The varsity softball team also faced Bowman and won 1-0, in a defensive struggle.

After loading the bases in the top of the first, Bowman never threatened again as they were unable to string together hits against Eagles pitcher Jessica Cole.

With the game tied 0-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Chaffee hit a triple to get into scoring position. Cole then smashed a ball that was mishandled by the Bowman second baseman, allowing Chaffee to score.

That lone run would be enough, as Cole closed out the last inning and the game as she struck out six.J.V. softball

The Lady Eagles J.V. softball team took on Bowman Academy on Friday and won 6-5.

Newberry fell behind 4-0 in the top of the first, but managed to get back two runs in the bottom of the frame.

Down 5-4 in the bottom of the last inning, Kaitlyn Nobles reached first on a single, and

Ashley Chaffee drove her in to tie the game with a triple.

Bay Eleazer continued her strong play by driving in the winning run.

Nobles was the winning pitcher, striking out six.
