Newberry fire officials are still working today to determine the cause of a series of fires early Wednesday that totaled one house and significantly damaged another.

Fire Chief Keith Minick said the investigation into the cause of the fires at two homes on Glenn Street was ongoing this morning.

“We have not come to a solution,” said Minick, adding he does not believe there was foul play in the initial fire that sparked the blazes.

The fire started just after 1 a.m. Monday in the house at 1221 Glenn St. The fire then spread into the ductwork of the house next door at 1223 Glenn St.

The house at 1221 Glenn St., which had a lot of antiques inside, was totally destroyed. The neighboring house at 1223 had a large amount of damage done to its interior walls as the fire spread inside the brick home.

Minick says he hopes his department will learn more about the cause of the fires by Monday.

City fire crews were on the scene of the blaze until after 10 a.m. Wednesday and traveled back to the scene at 1221 Glenn St. throughout the day on Wednesday and yesterday to put out hotspots that flared up.

Friendly and Prosperity fire departments were also called to assist with the initial fire.

No one was injured in the blazes.
