A local church is doing more than feeding others but they are feeding souls.

The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer has started a program called Soup for the Soul, which will be a free meal open to the public on the fourth Sunday night of every month. The meal will be served from 4 to 6:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center.

Soup for the Soul is designed to reach out to those who are lonely or hungry.

Redeemer volunteers will be serving two soups each night and cornbread to those in need of a hot meal or companionship, said Ministries Coordinator and Organist Huger Caughman Jr.

The meal is open to everyone and Caughman hopes many in the community will drop in to each and fellowship with the volunteers.

The church is working to get the word out about the meal through talking with others, the Interfaith Community Services, the Department of Social Services and media outlets.

Caughman said other churches and community members have already volunteered to assist with the monthly meals.

For more information about Soup for the Soul or to volunteer contact Caughman at 276-2003.
