NEED TOUGHER SENTENCES FOR DRUG OFFENDERS

Dear Editor,

In reference to the letter that Mr. Eddie Summer wrote about our Sheriff, I offer the following comments.

I know many drug users and dealers are arrested by our deputies and other law enforcement officers.

All one has to do is read the sentences imposed by the judges. The sentences are usually time served, probation and occasionally a fine. I guess they think that will keep them from repeating their crimes.

Sort of like saying if one gets caught for attempting to poison a husband, well they get probation because that won’t happen again.

These criminals blatantly commit crimes and should get no probation. Real jail time should be the sentence, first time caught or not.

All that the police can do is arrest these criminals.

They risk their safety and life to catch these people and the judge pats them on the wrists and lets them go free.

The problem is not our law enforcement, but rather the court system.

Sincerely,

Katie Cranford
