WHITMIRE — Mildred “Millie” Davis Thrift, age 73, of 220 Duckett St. died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Whitmire, and was a daughter of the late Gary and Lula Moates Davis.

Ms. Thrift retired from J. P. Stevens Whitmire Plant after 44 years of service and then worked with Crisp Catering after retiring. She was also member of the Central Avenue Baptist Church. She was married to Edward “Buck” Thrift of Whitmire for 27 years.

Surviving are one son, Marion “Buck” Thrift and wife, Teresa, of Whitmire; Vanessa “Van” LaBudde and husband, Louie, of Forreston, Ill.; one sister, Thelma Crase of Freeport, Ill.; three grandchildren, Cristy Southerland and husband, Shannon of Forreston, Ill., Megan Thrift and Logan Thrift of Whitmire; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Southerland and Kobe Southerland of Forreston, Ill.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Buddy and Wade Davis; one sister, Elsie Tankersley and a nephew, Gary Crase.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 1 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Whitmire by the Rev. Waco Cotney and the Rev. Tony Dickert, with burial in the Whitmire Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to the Central Avenue Baptist Church, c/o Pauline Crisp, 210 Duckett St., Whitmire, SC 29178.
