Because of a substantial amount of rain on Nov. 11, the 24th annual Educator’s Veterans’ Day Golf Tournament held at the Country Club of Newberry was re-scheduled for Nov. 24.

For the first time in the tournament’s history, a hole-in-one was made on the par 3 third hole.

Paul Canady of North Carolina aced the 160-yard hole to claim several prizes.

The top prize, provided by Hedgepath’s Outdoor Power Equipment of Newberry, was a Fast Cat ATR by Bobcat.

The mower has an estimated value of $6,000.

The other tournament sponsor was Stokes-Trainor Chevrolet-Pontiac-Cadillac-Buick-GMC. Besides offering a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu for a hole-in-one on the par three 17th hole, Stokes-Trainor offered a five-day vacation to one of many resorts for a hole-in-one on the third hole. Canady also won that prize.

Each year, this tournament makes a donation to a veterans’ cause. In the past, donations have been made to the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.; the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va.; the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief; the replacement of a fire truck in New York City after the 9/11 attack; homeless veterans organizations; and the Blue Star Mothers of the Midlands. This past year, a donation was made to the Honor Flight South Carolina program.
