With both the mayor and mayor pro tem resigning, what is left of the Silverstreet Town Council has called a meeting for today at 6 p.m. to regroup.
On Nov. 10, Mayor Janice Havird resigned from her duties passing them on to Mayor Pro Tem Vera Nell Dale.
Dale, who has a sick daughter, sent certified mail to her peers resigning on Monday.
The resignation leaves three council members, Shirley Berry, Sherri Waddel and Travis Gilliam, but no one as mayor.
Since the second resignation, council has contacted the S.C. Municipal Association for help.
Field Representative Scott Slatton plans to attend the council’s meeting today.
He said during the meeting he will discuss freedom of information law with the council, explaining the council members obligations in that regard.
After a recent request from The Observer for notification of meetings and agendas for upcoming meetings, the outgoing Havird said “that won’t happen.”
Silverstreet Town Council did contact the paper to give notice of tonight’s meeting.
Silverstreet residents had complained of not knowing when meetings are being held or what is going on in town government.
The group will also work through the steps to call a special election to replace Havird and Dale.
The meeting will be held in the Silverstreet Town Hall in the community center building and is open to the public.
