Game Notes:
• Newberry College is in its 95th season of intercollegiate football as the scarlet and gray and faces off against Brevard College for the fourth meeting between the two schools.
• Neither team is currently ranked in Super Region Two.
• The teams share six common opponents. Both teams defeated Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne and lost to Carson-Newman and Mars Hill. Newberry defeated Wingate and Bre- yard beat Tusculum.
The Series:
• This game is the fourth meeting between Newberry and Brevard with the Scarlet and Gray winning all three previous meetings.
• Newberry has not allowed a touchdown to the Tornados in any of the previous meetings and has shut out Brevard twice (2006 and 2008).
The Opponent:
• Brevard is 7-3 overall and 3-3 in South Atlantic Conference play.
• The Tornados swept through their non-conference competition (Edward Waters, Pikeville, Chowan, Southern Virginia) which has a combined record of 6-30.
• A 14-9 road win over Lenoir-Rhyne in Week 5 was the program’s first SAC win. They’ve followed that with an OT victory over Tusculum and a 7-6 win over Catawba.
The Coaches:
• Todd Knight (Gardner-Webb, 1989) is in his first season as Newberry’s head coach and his first season as a collegiate head coach. He has a 5-4 record and a record of 2-0 against teams ranked in the AFCA Division II top 25. He has a 3-3 record against the South Atlantic Conference.
• Brevard’s Paul Hamilton (Appalachian State, 1981) is in his third season as the Tornados’ head coach. He has an overall record of 55-78 in 11 years as a collegiate head coach, with a record of 10-21 at Brevard. He is 3-10 all-time in South Atlantic Conference play.
