WELCOME TO NEWBERRY! — Ladies new, or fairly new, to Newberry County met at the DeWalt House this morning to hear Opera House Executive Director Deborah Smith. Each month the group meets for fellowship, snacks and to learn about the county. — Staff photo by Leslie Moses
Newberry Newcomers’ Club meets at 10 a.m. from September through May each year, typically the third Wednesday each month with refreshments and a tour or speaker.

The club welcomes women who are new to Newberry County, or returning after an extended absence. Current membership cost is $10 for the full year and $5 for half the year.

Currently, club membership is allowed for four consecutive years, says President Ceile Kempson.

“We just look at it as a good way to share knowledge about the county and it’s a good way for people to meet others and get to know their neighbors,” says club advisor Sharyn Shaw, who moved from Richland County in 1999. “I wouldn’t have met nearly as many people.”
