WHITMIRE — Mr. Marion David Nelson Sr., age 79, husband of Jewell Baker Nelson of 110 Duncan St., Whitmire, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009 at his home.

Mr. Nelson was born in Whitmire, Sept. 1, 1929, a son of the late Robert Andersen Nelson and Annie Wilson Nelson. He was a graduate of Whitmire High School and a member of Central Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Nelson was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from the Army National Guard-Union Unit.

Surviving are two daughters and two sons: David Nelson Jr. of Taylors, Kay Nelson Dillard of Whitmire, Debbie Nelson Everhart and husband, Tony, of Pacolet and Rusty Nelson of Whitmire; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Elanor N. Evans of Johnston; step-children, Donna C. Lathrop and husband, Roger, of Pomaria, Bridgett C. Fain and husband, Mike, of Whitmire and Sunday C. Powers of Eastover; 10 step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Nelson was predeceased by a step-son, Billy G. Cudd.

Graveside services with military honors were held at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 5, 2009 at Whitmire Cemetery conducted by Pastor Kenny Weaver.

Active pallbearers were Matthew Fain, Kevin Fain, Daniel Powers, Heath Ginn, John Nobler and Harold Whicker. Honorary pallbearers will be John Bullard, Donnie Henry and Devon Henry.

The family is at the home, 110 Duncan St., Whitmire, where the family received friends last night.
