A teen wanted in connection with an attempted home invasion in Chappells and two armed robberies in Clinton is in now after a morning manhunt.

Just after 6:30 this morning, a suspect attempted to force his way into a residence located on Milner Road in Chappells.

“One of the investigators sent to investigate the home invasion saw the suspect and the suspect fled on foot from the officer,” said Sheriff Lee Foster.

A number of deputies from the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, bloodhounds and a helicopter from the State Law Enforcement Division, plus manpower support from the Clinton Police Department, Laurens County Sheriff’s Office and the Newberry Police Department saturated the area in a search for the suspect.

Major Todd Johnson of the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect as Manuel Eugene Cunningham, 19.

He was seen this morning running from the investigator on Highway 56 in Chappells at around 9:40 a.m.

Cunningham was arrested just after noon.

Additional information will be posted, as it becomes available.
